State of Nevada
The RJ Viewpoints headline on 4/29/18 read: 'Nevada state workers get a raw deal" written by Mr. Harry Schiffman, President of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees Local 4041 Nevada State Employees Union (AFSCME).
The article was another pile of propaganda trash trying to convince you state workers are an oppressed minority because they can't
rip off the people through collective bargaining. Schiffman makes it clear how he is going to bring state workers to the legalized
theft game that is collective bargaining when he writes AFSCME will elect politicians (he means Democrats) who will give AFSCME
what it wants.
What Schiffman can't stand is that State Government is 5% below Local Government. It's of no concern to him at all that State is 12% above the private sector. He wants to be the 18% above the private sector peasants like Local Government is. That's how AFSCME defines fair and equitable. That's how all the private corporations inside of government define fair and equitable.
Well, Brian Greenspun (BG) of the Sun went off on a rant again. This time it was his Sunday 4/22/18 Where I Stand column headlined:
"Believe it: True believers will be our downfall."
A fair question might be are Trump people the only ones closed off to reality? What if the same process was used in the professors'
lounges at Harvard, Yale, Princeton et al? Or for that matter at the 19th hole of BG's country club.
What lies really did make a difference and could very well have bought our country down? Try these:
Let's close with a little positive news. Most of you are probably aware of the notorious Eminent Domain US Supreme Court decision in" Kelo vs. New London" in which the Court said it is OK for a local government to condemn and seize a homeowner's property if it will be turned over to a private entity that will redevelop it and generate higher taxes for the government.
It was one of the worst decisions in the history of the Court. In my opinion it's right up there with Dred Scott and Separate but Equal. It created
a firestorm leading to a massive wave of Eminent Domain reforms all across the country, including here in Nevada where we were actually ahead of the curve.
There was a showing of the movie here in Las Vegas and NSC Members Ed and Mary Duffy went to see it. They told me it was done very well and they enjoyed it. They also reported that of the 100 or so people in the theater a large number seemed to be in the millennial age category. This was a very pleasant surprise to me. I figured the only people who still care abut individual property rights would be our generation along with some babe boomers. To hear a good percentage of the audience was younger was encouraging to me and I hope it is to you too.
Disclosure: I support the Institute for Justice. They do very good work in the area of individual rights and I urge you to give them consideration when contemplating donations.
